What is health?
“Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well- being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” (WHO)
Please Teach this to your students and friends.
A few years ago we started a very successful campaign to teach all students in health world wide, the WHO definition of health. This began when I was talking with my students in public health, and only 20% knew the elegant WHO definition of health. We decided that as most medical, public health, nursing, veterinary, agriculture and dental students start in September 2012 we should teach all new coming students this definition. We do not want students in public health or medicine to complete 4-6 years in the health field without knowing the definition . I therefore ask you to send this message to all you incoming students or teach this so that they know what health is early in their training. It is our mission that by the end of 2015 90% of all health students will know the WHO definition of health.
Eugene Shubnikov prepared a beautiful Poster of the WHO definition of health at: http://www.pitt.edu/~super1/globalhealth/What%20is%20Health.htm
We have had 26 people from our network translate this into different languages. If you can add to the translations, please send this to me, [email protected] . Please print this poster and hang it at the entrance of your schools and in classrooms. We want all students to be able to see what health is when they go to school.
Thank you, it is time that every student knows the WHO Definition of Health.
